Gurung re-elected as GAESO president
Padam Bahadur Gurung has been re-elected as the President of Gurkha Army Ex-Servicemen’s Organization (GAESO). The 2nd National Convention of the association of former Gurkha servicemen of the British Army concluded in the capital city Tuesday electing Krishna Kumar Gurung and Kul Pratap Pun to the post of Vice-President, Mahendra Lal Rai and Kamala Rai as General Secretary and Jit Bahadur Rai as Treasurer.
Similarly, the convention also elected 9 others as members.
The convention also issued a 12-point Kathmandu Declaration which, according to newly elected GAESO President Gurung, will be publicized by organizing a press conference in the capital city tomorrow.
On Monday, the 21st annual welfare meeting of Indian Army-Ex Servicemen’s Welfare Organization in Nepal (IEWON) was held in the capital city.
Inaugurating the meeting, Indian Ambassador to Nepal Rakesh Sood said Nepali citizens serving in the armed forces of India have helped to strengthen relationship between India and Nepal.
He also said that every year the Indian government spends Rs 16 billion in terms of pension and welfare to the ex-servicemen. More than 100,000 ex-servicemen of Indian Armed Forces are settled in Nepal and around 40,000 Nepalis are currently serving in Armed Forces of India.
